Famous Poker Names

Amarillo Slim Preston, born in Arkansas in 1928, is perhaps the most famous name in the Poker Hall of Fame. He won his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament in 1972. Amarillo Slim is known for his ostrich cowboy boots, sense of humor, and crazy proposition bets on everything from ping-pong to poker. Now that he is "pokered out," he enjoys golf, hunting, and attending sports events.

Johnny Chan, nicknamed the Orient Express, ranks among the top poker players in the world. He captured his second WSOP No-Limit Hold-em tournament in 1988. His fast, aggressive style has paid off with money and gold bracelets, winning ten WSOP tournaments. Today, Johnny Chan lives the well-deserved good life in Las Vegas .

Doyle Brunson, a farm boy from Texas and a gifted athlete, went on to become one of the most highly respected poker players in the world. Brunson won two consecutive WSOP tournaments in 1976 and 1977 and went on to win eight more. Doyle Brunson, "the Man," continues to play high stakes poker with courtesy and style.

T.J. Cloutier, a former athlete and oilrig worker from California , has won six WSOP bracelets and more than 58 worldwide poker tournaments. Cloutier began playing poker in 1956, while traveling through Texas , and quickly figured out that it paid more than his other jobs. Today, T.J. Cloutier, perhaps one of the very best all-round poker players in the world, consistently plays a skillful game of poker, loves to travel, and spend time at his home in Texas .
